Maungaraki

Maungaraki.jpg

Location

Maungaraki is a suburb of Lower Hutt nestled on the Western Hills of the Hutt Valley between Korokoro and Normandale. It is 10 minutes north of New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington. The suburb overlooks the Hutt Valley, Petone and the Wellington Harbour. Homeowner’s near the top of the hill have spectacular and breathtaking views.

About

Maungaraki is predominantly family focused with about two thirds of all 3500 residents belonging to a family unit (www.maungaraki.com). The suburb is surrounded by a number of beautiful native parks including the Belmont Regional Park, Percy’s Scenic Reserve and the Banksia Playground which is perfect for families.

The Belmont Regional Park can be accessed from Oakleigh Street. It is a great spot for mountain biking and bush walking. Percy’s Scenic Reserve can be accessed from the State Highway 2 Maungaraki Interchange - it is a beautiful spot with plenty of picnic areas, a duck pond, bush walks and an aviary. There is also a beautiful waterfall walk for those seeking adventure and a challenge. Lastly, the Banksia Grove Playground is great for families – there is heaps of equipment to keep the children entertained while the parents can sick back, relax and admire the views of the Wellington Harbour.

Facilities

There is no need to drive down to Lower Hutt to do your shopping and recreational activities as Maungaraki has almost everything you need including a church, scouts club, tennis club, brownies and girl guides club, a wine society, a bakery, restaurants, liquour stores, dairy, auto services and so much more – there are too many to list!

One of our agents, Keith Crawford, has lived in Maungaraki for years. Keith recommends Benedicts Café. He quite often catches up with his friends at the café over an amazing coffee and a bite to eat off their delicious menu which includes freshly baked cakes, slices and gourmet sandwiches.

Another place recommended by Keith is Maunagraki Oscar which is a Breakfast Club, After School Care and Holiday Programmes for children aged between 5 and 13. The programme aims to develop children socially creatively, emotionally, academically and culturally which simply playing and having fun in a safe environment.
